Dunbar’s design for an Ex Libris label - which could be stuck on to the flyleaf or inside the front cover of books to denote ownership - was a commission from one Hylda Roots. It is not known who the lady was. She was possibly a friend or acquaintance from Dunbar’s Oxford days, 1947-50.
We are grateful to Christopher Campbell-Howes for assistance.
