Provenance: David Leighton, the Artist's nephew
This study of the South of France probably dates from Clare’s visits there between 1923 and 1927, when she went on various painting trips with her uncle Jack. Jack, or John Leighton was the brother of Clare’s father Robert, and a book illustrator. An artist himself, he is reported by Clare to have despaired of ever making an artist of Clare!
We are grateful to David Leighton for his assistance.
