The ad hoc use of a Windsor Chair to support a paint box, with a lectern alongside which logically might have been used for transcribing drawings onto the canvas on the easel above, suggests a makeshift studio arranged in the student lodgings. Willets attended the Royal Academy Schools between 1934 and 1940.
