Literature: Christopher Campbell-Howes, 'Evelyn Dunbar: A Life in Painting', 2016, p. 234, fig. 188, 'Strawberry Cottage Vegetable Garden', 1938/39 Other Notes: Strawberry Cottage, Hurst Green, was one of the homes of Evelyn Dunbar's aunt, Clara Cowling. Evelyn would often stay with her in the late 1930's and paint in the garden.Strawberry Cottage was painted in (probably) 1939 while Evelyn was staying, as she often did, with her aunt Clara Cowling at Hurst Green, near Tunbridge Wells. This painting stayed in her studio until 1960/61, when Roger gave it to his second wife Carol’s aunt, Inez Challis.
